MIRJANA UGRINOV is a Yugoslav born American artist who studied Art History at Case Western Reserve Graduate School, has attended Ohio State University as a Painting Major and holds a B. F. A. degree in Studio Art from Kent State University. At KSU she studied painting with Joseph B. O’Sickey and sculpture with Brinsley Tyrrell.
Ugrinov enjoys expressing her ideas through a wide range of mediums but she is she is primarily a painter and fiber artist. In ‘Uncommon Treads’ Ohio’s quilt Revolution, by Gayle Pritchard, (Ohio University Press, 2007), Mirjana is featured as a pioneer of the art quilt movement in the US.
Ugrinovs art work has been featured in group shows and one-person installations nationally and internationally. Her paintings, fiber art, 3-D installations, and glass mosaics are in numerous public, corporate, and private collections. Her work has been exhibited at The Cleveland Museum of Art; Columbus Museum of Art; Massillon Museum; Akron Art Institute; The Chicago Cultural Center; US Botanic Garden, Washington D.C.; The Kennedy Center, Washington D. C.; London Biennale 2008; Edinburgh Art Festival; US embassy in Belgrade, Serbia; Kiron Gallery in Paris, and more.
In 2005 her work was exhibited in France where she was invited by the members of Bastille art Association in Paris to participate in the international art exchange ‘Americans in Paris’. In October 2011 Mirjana ‘s work was again featured in Paris. Her installation ‘Homage’ was featured in Gallery Kiron.
Mirjana’s work received favorable press in Scotland during the Edinburgh Art Festival in August of 2005.
In 2007 her ‘globe’ was selected for ‘Cool Globes - Hot ideas for a Cooler Planet’ international public project in Chicago. The exhibition comprised of 126 globes traveled nationally for two years.
In 2007 Mirjana was also invited by the Senior Curator of US Department of State to participate in an ART in Embassies Exhibition ‘Contemporary Art by American Women’ hosted by Ambassador Cameron P. Hunter and his wife Marilyn Wyatt in Belgrade, Serbia.
In 2011 five Mirjana’s paintings were again selected by current US Ambassador to Serbia Mary Warlick to be featured in yet another US Embassy in Belgrade exhibition that will be up for two years.
Mirjana and her husband Branislav are principals of Ugrinov Associates, Inc., a Cleveland/Chicago space planning and commercial interior design firm where she has been a Design Director for over two decades. Throughout her career of designing corporate interiors, Mirjana repeatedly expressed her passion for bringing fine art to the public by incorporating it into the otherwise utilitarian settings. Because of her firm belief in the importance of aesthetics in people’s lives, she has successfully introduced custom designed elements, nature, and lighting into each of her projects.
